SOME THINGS

I was a college dj for four years while in school.  the station was kcpr and it was probably one of the nicest parts of my college experience.  having an access to a huge amount of great music and constant updates on new releases with a great community of like minded music lovers was actually more awesome than it sounds.  Although in retrospect I did take a year off when I was abroad and when I returned most everyone I knew was graduated, the new kids were cool and it turned out to be a good year station wise.  I’m still coping with not being a part of that station.  Searching for new music is an annoying/rewarding task, I’ve sort of forgotten how to do outside of a college radio station atmosphere.  Anyways I will post some short reviews of cd’s I bought.

Jaguar Love - Take Me To The Sea

Jaguar Love – Take me to the Sea

On paper, The Blood Brothers + Pretty Girls Make Graves sounds pretty amazing.  I like the album but not really as much as I thought I’d like it.  The songs are generally hit and miss with me I won’t go into details, but sometimes way to pop.  Overall I think it sounds like blood brothers, or pretty girls makes graves, but not as good.  I’d rather listen to blood brothers or pretty girls make graves than jaguar love.  some tracks are pretty awesome though, first track especially.

The Notwist – The Devil, You + Me

First, my album cover doesn’t look like this one.  It looks way worse, a bunch of color bars.  I didn’t know that this was even a cover until I saw it on allmusic.  maybe they’re wrong, maybe my cover is the real one and they uploaded some random image by accident.  The music is good.

Prefuse 73

2 discs. solid.

ALSO A COMIC FIND!

heres a comic by hope larson and bryan o malley

Also you should all read this if you haven’t already.  It’s really good.  If you didn’t know Bryan O’Malley and Hope Larson are a comics power couple and they’re really good.

AN UPWARD LOOK

Oh heart green acre          sown with salt
by the departing          occupier

lay down your gallant          spears of wheat
Salt of the earth           each stellar pinch

flung in blind           defiance backwards
now takes its toll           Up from his quieted

quarry the lover          colder and wiser
hauling himself          finds the world turning

toys triumphs          toxins into
this vast facility           the living come
dearest to die in           How did it happen

In bright alternation           minutely mirrored
Within the thinking           of each and every

mortal creature           halves of a clue
approach the earthlinghts          Morning star

evening star           salt of the sky
First the grave           dissolving into dawn

then the crucial           recrystallizing
from the inmost depths           of clear dark blue

An Upward Look By James Merrill

Better late than never I guess, apologies this took so long to put up.

An Upward Look was our (Jefferson, Laura, Hannah, and myself) entry to the Chicago Hole Competition “MINE THE GAP” which won an honorable mention. The content consisted of the two boards above, you can click them to enlarge if you want to see some of the detail, or at least as much as a online image can offer.  I hope you enjoy.
