Random quick recap of the past. Probably from February to July. OH GOD.

In no particular order, this is a doublebow that hannah and I saw from the top of our apartment building a while ago. This was right after a storm, I actually think it was raining. June and May were really rainy, like seattle, like 25 out of 30 days were raining. July was sunny.

Montauk:

I took Hannah to Montauk for her birthday several months after her birthday for a weekend. It was great. We walked around, she found a rope, and we ate lobster. We DID NOT find that monster! ugh!!!

Highline:

I went to the highline right after it opened some time ago and it’s great one of the best things made ever.

PS1 YOUNG ARCHITECTS PROGRAM:

Went to the PS1 Young Architects thing for this year on the opening day and it wasn’t done. It is really bizarre like covered with fur. It’s like this awesome bantha party tent thing by tusken raiders/sand people architects (aka MOS.)

Theres that thing by the argentinian artist guy who makes those elaborate visual trick things, he made a pool in the kanazawa contemporary art museum by sanaa, and it’s great, this one in PS1 is really great too. Here we see Hannah and Maia at the bottom.

Shakespeare:

We tried to see 12th night and got there at 6:15am and were really far back in the line. Arriving @ 6:15am on July 3rd meant that we did not get a ticket, neither did like a hundred people in front of us. Ridiculous, usually you get in line super early in the morning and wait in line till 1pm get tickets and come back for an 8pm showing. I guess 6:15 didn’t cut it. Went to shake shack though afterward, and had a wizard people party.

Other things that happened were my birthday, we ate meat:

Also went to a handful of shows, saw KRALLICE which was pretty awesome, saw Blonde Redhead. Went to MoCCA, had like this awesome Scott Pilgrim week when Scott Pilgrim Vol. 5 came out.

You also probably know that I was a member of Meat Pallet a collective, which designed and built a putting hole for a putt putt course in Bushwick BK.

ALSO, WAY MORE SHIT HAPPENED.

EVERYTHING OUTSIDE IS DELICATELY MUTED.

The ever name changing collective of imhotep 2021, and meat pallet have been reimagined as Global Sand Architekten, and submitted an entry to the Sukkah City competition. The sukkah city team is Vivien, Hannah, Justin, and Myself.  In short the sukkah is a temporary structure used in the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, which is a harvest festival.  Each year there is a sukkah built in Union Square, this year there was a design competition for it, and 12 will be built.

Our non-winning entry involved a lace cube, some falsified ruins, and floating trees. It was somewhat hectic putting this board together. Judging by the winners designs shown on the internet, we were way off with our design language, laughably off. Regardless, I like how it turned out, and hopefully the winners can get these things built correctly, because if so I think Sukkah City will be pretty amazing event.

Terrible Horrible Part Deux

The wait is over. That concludes the longest ongoing Terrible Horrible strip ever. So not worth it.

Thumbnailing my new 12 page comic and it’s looking better.

GLITTER WINNERS – FINALLY

I didn’t win 5 dollars.  But I really like the 5 dollar winner.

WINNERS HERE

My entry.

Terrible Horrible

So the last Terrible Horrible was done some time in 2008. It’s 2010 now, thus this new one took 2 years to write and draw. It’s the worst thing I’ve ever made, BUT it’s the longest Terrible Horrible strip I’ve written, because it spans multiple 3 panel strips. I left you with a cliffhanger so you’ll have to tune in later when I post more.

In slightly larger news I would like to explain that this Terrible Horrible is a simple warm-up to getting back into drawing comics again. I finally met Paul Lau in NYC (we’ve met before, once – for like 15 min.) recently and foolishly we’ve decided to combine our efforts and make a split mini together for NY Comic-Con. Ground rules included: 5 characters, we would each get two, and share the fifth who will be an astronaut. We may have had a loose agreement to have it set in NYC. 12 pages each. I’ll explain more as things progress, but until then Terrible Horrible.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN!??

I updated all my wordpress settings and I lost my old wordpress layout. j_j

Now I have this layout. SO INTENSE!

AN UPWARD LOOK

Oh heart green acre          sown with salt
by the departing          occupier

lay down your gallant          spears of wheat
Salt of the earth           each stellar pinch

flung in blind           defiance backwards
now takes its toll           Up from his quieted

quarry the lover          colder and wiser
hauling himself          finds the world turning

toys triumphs          toxins into
this vast facility           the living come
dearest to die in           How did it happen

In bright alternation           minutely mirrored
Within the thinking           of each and every

mortal creature           halves of a clue
approach the earthlinghts          Morning star

evening star           salt of the sky
First the grave           dissolving into dawn

then the crucial           recrystallizing
from the inmost depths           of clear dark blue

An Upward Look By James Merrill

Better late than never I guess, apologies this took so long to put up.

An Upward Look was our (Jefferson, Laura, Hannah, and myself) entry to the Chicago Hole Competition “MINE THE GAP” which won an honorable mention. The content consisted of the two boards above, you can click them to enlarge if you want to see some of the detail, or at least as much as a online image can offer.  I hope you enjoy.
